Elegant Halloween decor: the matte black pumpkin

Elegant Halloween decor rests on contrast, not on accessories: matte black, a touch of orange, and low lighting. Our pumpkins, our lidded bowl, our vase and our pumpkin candleholders all exist in Matte Black, printed in Guérande from 3 to 25 €, and they stay in place after the 31st.

Halloween without the costume

Commercial Halloween decor has one flaw that can be summed up in a sentence: it is designed for one night. Synthetic fibre cobwebs, bright orange plastic pumpkins with printed grimaces, battery-powered light strings. On 1 November, everything goes into a box, or the bin.

The other approach is to keep the object and let the evening do the rest. A pumpkin without a face, in a sober colour, is enough to say Halloween as soon as you turn off the ceiling light and switch on a few low lights. It is the staging that makes the party, not the object. And the next day, the same piece is still a decorative piece.

Matte black, the colour that does the work on its own

Black is the colour of Halloween par excellence, but not just any black. A glossy black reflects light and quickly looks plastic. A matte black absorbs light: under a low lamp, only the silhouette remains, and the ribs of our pieces are drawn in shadow and raking light. That is exactly the effect sought on the evening of the 31st.

Orange comes next, as an accent, never in bulk. Two or three small touches are enough to tip a black composition into Halloween. A table entirely orange, on the other hand, looks like a supermarket display.

Which colours for a black and orange Halloween

This is the point to check before ordering, because our pieces do not all share the same colour palette.

Matte Black is available on all four pumpkin pieces in this article: the Pumpkin, the Pumpkin Bowl, the Pumpkin Vase and the Pumpkin Candleholder. This is the base.

For orange, it depends on the piece. The Pumpkin, Bowl and Vase belong to the autumn collection, whose colour palette offers Terracotta, a deep brick orange. The Pumpkin Candleholder follows the general colour palette of the catalogue, which offers Matte Orange, a brighter orange. The two work very well together, but you need to know which one to look for on which product page.

The pumpkin, in black

The Pumpkin (10 €) is the piece that says Halloween without needing a face. Two sizes, which sit together: height 9.5 cm for Ø 13 cm, and height 15.5 cm for Ø 18 cm.

In Matte Black, the ribbed body becomes black while the stem stays green, and this detail is what makes it credible: a pumpkin entirely black, stem included, would look like a novelty item. Here, you immediately recognise a gourd, simply in a night shade.

The candy bowl for the 31st

The Pumpkin Bowl (20 €) is the new piece in the collection, and the most useful piece of the evening. Closed, it is a ribbed pumpkin of Ø 17 cm for 10 cm high. Open, it is a bowl: the top third lifts off like a lid, with a zigzag cut line that echoes the gesture of carving a pumpkin by hand.

On the evening of the 31st, it fills with sweets and sits near the front door for the children who ring the bell. Prefer individually wrapped sweets, it is more hygienic when dozens of hands pass through the bowl. For the rest of the year, it holds small objects, keys or jewellery, and the lid makes them disappear.

The pumpkin vase, in a dark version

The Pumpkin Vase (25 €) brings the vertical element that the placed pumpkins lack. Its body is made of large rounded ribs, more sculptural than the fine ribs of the other pieces, and its narrow neck holds two or three dried stems upright.

In Matte Black, with light or dried branches, it is the most graphic piece on the table. For Halloween, thin dark stems reinforce the silhouette effect; for the rest of autumn, golden grasses soften it. The vase does not change, only the bouquet changes.

The light of the 31st: LED, without exception

The Pumpkin Candleholder (3 €, one size) is a small ribbed pumpkin open at the top to hold a candle. Taken in threes or fives, it traces a line of light across a table or windowsill. In Matte Orange, it provides precisely the orange accent that a black composition needs.

It is filled with an LED candle, never with a naked flame. This is the rule on all our candleholders, because PLA begins to soften around 55 to 60 °C, a temperature that a flame reaches on contact. On Halloween evening, the rule counts even more: there are children passing by, wide sleeves, capes, wigs, and a costume that brushes a flame catches fire very quickly. Warm white flickering LEDs give the same atmosphere, without any of these risks. The subject is developed in 3D printed candleholder: which candle to put inside.

To complement in black, the Ondéa (3 €) and the Lunar (4 €) also exist in Matte Black, with their radiating ribs or wavy crest that cut the LED light.

Where to place them for it to work

On the dinner table. Three heights, no more: the Pumpkin Vase for the vertical, the large Pumpkin for the volume, three candleholders for the light. All in black, except the candleholders in orange. Turn off the ceiling light, and the table is enough.

In the entrance. This is where the children's evening plays out. The Pumpkin Bowl filled with sweets on the console, a small Pumpkin beside it, two LED candleholders to light the threshold. No flame near a door that opens and closes all evening.

On the windowsill. Seen from the street, a row of lit pumpkin candleholders is the clearest signal that you welcome children. With LEDs, no flame is within reach of a curtain.

1 November

This is where the choice of Matte Black takes on its full meaning. Black is a neutral: a black pumpkin placed on a shelf in December no longer says Halloween, it says graphic object. The Pumpkin Vase gets flowers back, the Pumpkin Bowl gets its keys or jewellery back.

The orange touches, on the other hand, are more seasonal. A Matte Orange candleholder can go into a box until next year, or be replaced by one in Marble Brick, the terracotta of the general colour palette, for an autumn composition. At 3 € each, it is the ideal place to put the season's colour: it is the cheapest element and the easiest to change.

Printed after your order, in time for the 31st

None of these pieces are in stock. Your order arrives at our Guérande workshop, the spool of the chosen colour is mounted on an available machine, the piece prints, then it is deburred and checked before packaging. Allow 5 to 7 days before dispatch, plus delivery time: to be confident on Halloween evening, order before 20 October.
